Michelle Wiedel, Miss Nebraska, was chosen over nine other contestants to represent the Nation as Miss Czech Slovak USA.

Wiedel is the daughter of Joan Wiedel and represented the York chapter of the Nebraska Czechs of Wilber.

Her talent included a ballet and tap routine that incorporated traditional Czech steps that she choreographed herself.

Wiedel's Little Sister is Karena Haselbush of Wilber, the daughter of Kili Haselbush and the granddaughter of Steve and Allison Barnas and great granddaughter of Ruth and Laveryl Jensby, all of Wilber. Karena is going into the fourth grade at W-C this year and has a sister, Caytlin.

As Miss Czech Slovak USA, Wiedel will travel to the Czech Republic or Slovakia as well as many other festivals and programs around the United States.

Wiedel replaces Sarah Middlebrook, Miss Texas 2006, as Miss Czech Slovak USA. Middlebrook traveled well over 26,000 miles in the past year in representing her crown.

First runner-up was Leah Sticha, Miss Minnesota, daughter of Richard and Kathleen Ruhland and the late Roger Sticha and was sponsored by the Miss Czech Slovak Minnesota Pageant. She performed a violin solo as her talent.

Second runner-up was Elizabeth Klasek of Missouri. She is the daughter of Jane Cridland and Juan Garcia and Steve Klasek and was sponsored by her parents.

Her talent was a narration of a traditional Czech folk tale.

Sponsors this year included Western Fraternal Life Association ZCBJ, First National Bank of Beatrice-Clatonia Branch, Nebraska Czechs of Wilber Inc., Wilber Bakery, T. J. Sokols of Wilber, John and Lois Fiala, Alice Rokusek Memorial, John Rokusek Memorial, Dr. Cecelia Rokusek, Nebraska SVU Chapter and the Czech Language Foundation.
