Woodgraining aka Stain Graining or Painting (Faux Wood - Fake) Wood Finishes on Doors and other home objects. It's an old Eastern European craft taught to me by my grandfather, who learned it from his. When growing up in Baltimore's Polish & Czech Communities, 7 out of 10 families row-house doors were grained.
Few learned the craft and just about all of the commercial
painting companies, Grainers failed to teach apprentices, fearing job security.
So Maryland's Historic Trust Say's I'm the last one left and they paid me to
teach an apprentice back in Baltimore City so there would be one of me after I'm
gone.
